LAMDA at The
Phoenix Theatre School
We are very proud of the work our students produce in their weekly
Phoenix classes. Often this success can be seen publicly in shows
and showcases, but we believe that there are other ways to enable
students and parents to see and measure their progress and achievements.
One such way is by entering students for the nationally recognized
LAMDA examinations.
What is LAMDA?
LAMDA (the London Academy of Dramatic
Art) is one of the world’s greatest and most highly regarded
drama schools. David Suchet, Kim Cattrall, Richard Harris, Maureen
Lipman, Donald Sutherland and Martin Shaw are just a few of LAMDA’s
most successful past students.
What are LAMDA Examinations?
LAMDA began offering speech examinations
to the public in the 1880’s. Since then these examinations
have been refined and developed into a comprehensive system of performance
evaluation by experts in education, acting and communication.
The
LAMDA Examination mission is to:
- Improve standards in communication through the spoken word
- Foster an appreciation of literature and drama
- Acknowledge levels of achievement
- Provide a framework in which individual talent can grow
- Support the creative, intellectual and social development of
the individual as a whole.
